The past few nights have been deliciously cool, a taste of the September weather to come. Some of our summer favorites (including lovely cosmos) begin to bow out making way for fall blooms. We’ll have a nice crop of sunflowers soon – perhaps in time for next week’s harvest. Today we gathered dahlias, ageratum, scabiosa, zinnias, sedum, china asters, lisianthus, ninebark foliage, and spikey plume celosia in brilliant hues. It’s a feast for the eyes!
Featured Flower: Dahlia
The stems of the first dahlia blooms are too short for bouquets, so we harvest them for drying and wait (impatiently) for the side shoots to grow taller. We have dozens of cultivars in our fields this year, in striking colors and shapes. Look for a few in your next bouquet! Soon, they will be the a main feature in our weekly bouquets. Although they start late, they will continue flowering right up until the first killing frost. Yay!
