Off The Muck Market is a locally owned and operated grocery delivery service based in Syracuse, NY.  We get our name from the highly fertile "muck" soils that once earned the region the nickname Onion Capital of the World. That’s where we get our name—and our roots.

We believe that everyone should have convenient access to the freshest local food. Our mission is to support growth: the growth of our community, our employees, our vendor partners, and our customers. That means cutting out the middlemen, buying directly from farmers and artisans across upstate New York, and offering those products to households across Central New York and beyond—year-round.

We do this by combining deep agricultural heritage with a modern, e-commerce-first mindset. Our CEO, Carl Chappell, grew up immersed in agriculture and later worked at a tech startup, where he saw the potential of subscription-based delivery. Off The Muck Market was born from this fusion—bringing small farm produce to the modern kitchen table.

Our Story

Our journey began at the CNY Regional Market, where Carl and his now-wife Andrea sold vegetables grown on their family farm. After a brief pivot and time spent learning the tech trade, Carl returned to his farming roots—this time with a mission to build a more sustainable food ecosystem through technology and logistics.

Launched in 2018, Off The Muck Market has grown from a small team and a few dozen orders to delivering hundreds of thousands of grocery boxes, supporting dozens of small farms and producers, and creating local jobs—all while staying true to our founding belief: if it’s available locally, we’ll source it locally.
