Barone Gardens is structured into 3 divisions - retail, wholesale and young plants. The retail was started in 1989 by John Barone as a farm market and pet & feed supply store. At that time, it was called Barone Farm & Feed. A retail garden center was added in 1990 with the first production greenhouse to follow in 1991.
The production greenhouse quickly evolved into the dominant part of the business, which influenced a name change to Barone Gardens. As greenhouses were added, they developed into retail and wholesale production. Our wholesale finished products are currently sold to independent garden centers throughout our area as well as in our own retail store.
In the late '90s, the young plant production was introduced which quickly developed into what is now the largest part of our business, representing world-renowned plant breeders, such as Suntory and Syngenta. Our young plants are predominately distributed in the northeast but are steadily spreading throughout the country. Our young plants are primarily sold through brokers, which include: BFG, Eason Horticultural Resources, SHS/Griffin, Grimes Horticulture, McHutchison/Vaughans, Michell's, Messick & Gloeckner.
As a result of the recent pandemic, Barone Gardens has expanded into lettuce production, producing whole head, and cut lettuces for wholesale distribution.
